About The Southern Digital Archives Conspectus

This website documents the library- and museum-produced, open access digital collections currently available on the topics of history, literature, and culture in the U.S. South from the Colonial Period (beginning 1605) to the present. The site has developed according to two related goals: 1) a desire on the part of the MetaScholar Initiative of Emory University and of the Digital Library Federation’s (DLF) Aquifer project to identify subject areas within the broad subject of American history and culture that could become the focus of significant future digitization efforts, and 2) the MetaScholar Initiative’s ongoing interest in developing scholarly resources and services concerned with Southern cultures, histories, and geographies.
